The Fundamental Flaw in Neuroscience: Why Neuroscience Will Never Be the Science of Consciousness.

Abstract

When it comes to the issue of consciousness, neuroscience relies on a set of contradictory and empty assumptions that dim any hope of finding a physical basis for our personal experiences. By the same token, other approaches (like enactivism, embodied mind, and extended mind), which seem more open to considering the body and its connection to the world, are caught up in the same mistaken ideas. In this article, I highlight the metaphysical assumptions that are unconsciously ruling science and that are holding back progress in consciousness research, often without us realizing it. Eventually, I propose an alternative view that is both conceptually consistent and empirically robust (the so-called MOI or Mind-Object Identity): sometimes, taking a step back can help us move forward.
